Built for newcomers to Canada.
New to Canada and ready to buy your first vehicle? Hollis Ford and Ford Credit Canada offer a Newcomer Program for landed immigrants, foreign workers, and international students living in Nova Scotia. No Canadian credit history required.
The Ford Credit Newcomer Program is an auto financing option for people who are new to Canada and don't yet have a Canadian credit file. At Hollis Ford in Truro, Nova Scotia, qualified newcomers can finance a new or Hollis Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle using their immigration documents -- Permanent Resident Card, Work Permit, or Study Permit -- together with current proof of income. It is one of three Ford Credit Canada special programs, alongside the First-Time Buyer Program and Graduate Program.
You can apply for credit under Ford Credit's Newcomer Program at Hollis Ford if you fall into one of the following three categories:
| Status | Required Document(s) |
|---|---|
| Landed Immigrant Permanent Resident |
Permanent Resident Card -- IMM 5688 or IMM 5292 |
| Foreign Worker Employed in Canada on a permit |
Work Permit -- IMM 1102 or IMM 1442 |
| International Student Studying at a designated learning institution |
Study Permit -- IMM 1208 or IMM 1442 |
If you don't hold any of the immigration documents listed above but have lived in Canada longer or are now a citizen, you may still qualify for the First-Time Buyer Program. Our Hollis Ford finance team can help you figure out which path applies in a single conversation.
Bringing the right paperwork to your appointment in Truro keeps things fast -- most newcomer applications are processed the same business day when documents are complete:
Ford Credit Canada retains the right to request additional documentation during the credit application process. All requested documentation must be satisfactory to Ford Credit.
The process at our Robie Street showroom is the same whether you arrived in Canada last month or last year. Here's what to expect:
Submit our online credit application. There's no impact to your credit, and we respond the same business day in English or French.
Browse the new Ford lineup or our certified pre-owned inventory. We'll match a vehicle to a monthly payment that fits your situation.
Bring your immigration document, ID, proof of income, and proof of address to your appointment. Most applications are approved the same day.
Drive away the same week, and start building Canadian credit history with every on-time monthly payment.
Hollis Ford has been serving Truro, Colchester County, and Atlantic Canada since 1977. From our location at 266 Robie Street, we work with newcomers settling across central Nova Scotia -- including Bible Hill, Onslow, Brookfield, Stewiacke, New Glasgow, and as far as Halifax, Moncton, and Charlottetown. We process newcomer applications regularly and understand the specific documentation Canada Border Services and IRCC issue.
From IMM 5688 to IMM 1442, our finance team works with these documents every week -- no confusion, no delays.
We explain every line of your contract -- HST, registration, optional protection -- so there are no surprises in your first Canadian car purchase.
Every on-time payment is reported to Equifax and TransUnion, helping you establish the credit history you'll need for housing, insurance, and future loans.
Your application is reviewed locally in Truro by a team that lives in the community -- not by an out-of-province call centre.
Yes. The Ford Credit Newcomer Program is specifically designed for people who are new to Canada and don't yet have a Canadian credit file. Instead of a credit bureau report, Ford Credit reviews your immigration document (Permanent Resident Card, Work Permit, or Study Permit), your current proof of income, and your residency in Canada. Hollis Ford in Truro processes these applications regularly and can usually return a same-day decision.
There is no minimum residency period required by Ford Credit's Newcomer Program. As long as you hold a valid Permanent Resident Card, Work Permit, or Study Permit, have a verifiable Canadian source of income, and meet the other requirements, you can apply. Many newcomers to Truro apply within their first few months of arriving in Nova Scotia.
Yes. International students with a valid Study Permit (IMM 1208 or IMM 1442) can apply. You will need proof of funding -- this can be a part-time job paystub, a teaching assistantship letter, scholarship documentation, or proof of bank funds available in Canada. Many students attending universities and colleges in central Nova Scotia, including those near Truro, qualify under this program.
Yes. Foreign workers holding a valid Work Permit (IMM 1102 or IMM 1442) qualify. You'll need a recent paystub or confirmation-of-employment letter from your Canadian employer. The remaining length of your Work Permit may affect the loan term Ford Credit can offer -- our finance team will walk through the available options with you.
A down payment is not always required, but it is often recommended for newcomer applicants. A modest down payment can lower your monthly payment, reduce total interest, and help offset the higher rates that sometimes apply when there is no Canadian credit history yet. Hollis Ford will run scenarios with and without a down payment so you can choose what works for you.
Yes. Ford Credit Canada reports your loan and payment history to the major Canadian credit bureaus, Equifax and TransUnion. On-time monthly payments build your Canadian credit profile -- this is the same credit history landlords, mortgage lenders, and insurance companies look at, so it benefits you well beyond the vehicle itself.
The Newcomer Program is for people who are new to Canada and rely on immigration documents in place of a Canadian credit file. The First-Time Buyer Program is for Canadian residents and citizens who have never financed a vehicle and have limited credit history. Both programs are offered through Ford Credit Canada and both are available at Hollis Ford in Truro -- our team will recommend the right one based on your status.
Yes. Eligible new Ford vehicles and Hollis Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicles can be financed under the Newcomer Program. Certified pre-owned vehicles are popular with newcomers because they keep monthly payments manageable while still offering Ford-backed warranty protection.
